I entered the internet marketing industry around 2003. It all started for me with an affiliate program and a pay per click campaign. Back in 2003 there were not many savvy Australian internet marketers so I had very little competition for my campaign for quite some time.

I watched as more and more people entered the market though, forcing click bids up. I watched while Google changed their rules, time and time again making it harder for affiliates to make money with pay per click. I watched and worked up to the point where the time involved in managing pay per click campaigns as an affiliate, was no longer worth the commissions the campaigns earned.

So I changed tack. I’d pretty much learned all I could with pay per click advertising anyway. At this juncture I started building and optimising websites. I spent thousands working out the most successful and enduring methods of search engine optimisation (SEO) and applied all the techniques to my own businesses. I still own about half a dozen successful websites. Only one promotes my own product, a tourism service I set up a couple of years ago. All the others sell products in affiliate programs or advertising space.

Over the 6 years I have been active in internet marketing, I have picked up quite a few clients who wanted help with their web presence. I never promoted this service, they all came to me on referral or by word of mouth. They all had two things in common. Firstly they wanted a website that sold their product. Secondly they had been ripped off by an unethical internet marketer who took their money and left them with a website that didn’t work.

There is a real issue with the internet industry, it is packed with these bogus operators. There are graphic designers who put together internet masterpieces, charge a fortune for the website, yet no-one can find it. There are marketing professional who apply all their skills, yet they know nothing about the internet so their message doesn’t find an ear to fall on. Our industry is unregulated and we are largely self trained. Unfortunately this has left the industry open to the unscrupulous and ignorant. Our clients have been damaged and the industry suffers also.

Every week I see these operators at work. They operate on the assumption that they know more about the internet than their clients and therefore can create sales through misdirection. They promise the world, deliver very little and once paid move onto the next unsuspecting victim.

For example, my tourism business hires out surfboards on Australia’s Gold Coast. Do a Google search on “Gold Coast Surfboard Hire” or even just “surfboard hire” for that matter. I’m sure you’ll find me, mine is Gold Coast Surfboards. Clearly for the product I am selling, I am very well optimised in the search engines.

So I have a website which is supporting a business perfectly. Its optimised in the search engine for the search phrases which are popular and relevant to the service. Despite this, so called internet “professionals” contact me every week trying to sell me their SEO services.

You can see exactly what they do. They find a small business website with the assumption they will know more about the internet than the websites owner. (He after all will be busy running his business) They will look at the main products and then trawl through Google to find a search phrase that the website doesn’t compete well with. Then they try and scare the business owner into signing up for their services.

If I didn’t understand internet marketing, I may have used these charlatans. I’m sure many small businesses have been convinced by their slick presentations. And at the end of their work though, I would have a website which attracts completely irrelevant visitors. People looking for surf accessories or people looking to rent a hotel room, or car for their holiday. This probably would have undermined the optimisation work I did on “Surfboard Hire” and related terms as well, meaning my real clients would have gone to my competitors.

If you are under pressure from an internet salesman to sign up for their optimisation services, my advice is to first get a really good understanding from you clients, as to which search phrases they use on the internet when they are looking for your product. If the salesmen are trying to get you to optimise other phrases, don’t do business with them. At the very least they have not researched your market enough to work on your website. At its worse, they are just manipulating you in an attempt to wring some money out of you. Either way, it will damage your business.

If on the other hand you are not being hassled by these salesmen, yet understand the potential the internet has for your business but don’t know where to start, I recommend you start asking around your circle of friends. Try and find an operator that someone will recommend first hand. Just make it clear to them though you are looking for an internet marketer, not a designer. There are plenty of students or graphic artists out there who will be happy to take your cash and build you a masterpiece. It will be such a pity no-one will be able to find it.

If you are an internet professional reading this article, its time for all of us to smarten up. We need to look after the industry and we can only do this by being ethical in the manner in which we operate. So please, stop going out trying to extract a pound of flesh, go out to add value to your clients. Once you are adding value, the new clients will come, following your reputation. Continue operating as you are though and soon no-one will talk to internet professionals anywhere.

If you are a Member of a Motorcycle Club as I am, I’m sure you have heard about how a Judge has banned the Colors of the the Mongols Motorcycle Club. Not only are the Members not aloud to wear their Colors but any item that has their Colors on it must be forfeited upon demand. I can not expect those who are not in a Motorcycle Club to understand what this really means! Twenty years ago this would have struck fear into the soul of every US Citizen! Today I am sure most, probably, will not even hear about it and those that do will probably not care! What has happened to the good ole USA?

I can not believe this is actually happening, I have been writing stories on this for years. Part of me had always hoped I was just being paranoid or that all the MCs would some how come together on some level and work out the problems. I have been getting emails on how the Story I wrote last year called “Taken from a History book in the year 2095″ does not sound so far fetched any more?

Are there Criminals in Motorcycle Clubs? We hear about Drug dealers, Rapists and Murderers in the NFL and NBA all the time. When was the last time you heard of a Biker running a Dog fighting ring? Can a Judge just ban the Logo of a Sports Franchise if its Members are involved in some kind of Criminal activity? You may be saying No because its different. Well I say it is only different because they haven’t done it yet! There are the same problems in Motorcycle Clubs that there are in all organizations. The Police force has much more Criminal Activity going on in it then all the Motorcycle Clubs put together! Only Difference is they can bury the Truth! When it comes to Motorcycle Clubs and criminal activity the big difference is, The legend of Motorcycle Clubs is we are America’s bad boys and it just sells so dam good.

This law can not be allowed to stand!!! I am sure some Sport Bike Clubs and AMA Club’s feel they have nothing to fear! I am sure many are thinking this has nothing to do with them, Its only the Outlaw and 1% Clubs! They are thinking this isn’t about us “we are the good guys”. This is how to defeat us, take down the top level’s first! The other levels will make excuses as to why it is not their fight and stand aside. All Bikers must join the fight now because once they are done with the Outlaw and 1% Clubs, Who do you think they will be looking at Next? Once the Outlaw and 1% Clubs are gone there will be no one left to come and help when they come for you!

I am pretty sure this is still the USA and this is completely against everything this Country was founded on and stands for! We all must ask, If this ruling is allowed to stand what Motorcycle Club will it be next? Will it be yours? What will the reasons be that they will use to ban your Clubs patch ? Will Jay walking be enough? Is that too ridiculous? How about if your an MC member and you get caught with a bag of marijuana? Is that enough? Will there have to be 2 Members involved? 3? What reason will they need to ban your Motorcycle Clubs patch?

When Motorcycle Clubs start having their Colors banned many members will start or join new Clubs, Because that is what we are, Motorcycle Club Members! Soon the government will realize this and then Ban Motorcycle Clubs all together! Any one who thinks their Club is not at risk is only kidding themselves! The time to unite and try to work together was yesterday! Today we have no choice but to ban together and fight for or right to survive. Tomorrow, it will be too late!

Even if some how all Motorcycle Clubs can come together and work to win this fight, It is just the beginning and there will be many more rounds to come. If we are to win this fight we MUST at least make it threw the first round, Then we will have a Minute to pull ourselves together!!!

Should you be looking for Microsoft certified training, it stands to reason you’ll want companies to provide a wide range of the finest training courses currently available. Maybe you’d choose to find advisors with experience of the IT industry, who can offer guidance on what sort of job would suit you, and what sort of tasks are suitable for someone with a personality like yours. When you’ve settled on the job you’d like to get into, an appropriate course has to be singled out that’s a match for your current skills and aptitude. This can be personally tailored for your needs.

Obviously, the computing market promises impressive prospects. Yet, to investigate it properly, what are the questions we should raise, and which are the sectors we need to investigate?

A ridiculously large number of organisations only look at the plaque to hang on your wall, and forget the reasons for getting there – getting yourself a new job or career. Always start with the final destination in mind – too many people focus on the journey. Imagine training for just one year and then end up doing the actual job for 10-20 years. Avoid the mistake of finding what seems like an ‘interesting’ training program only to spend 20 years doing something you don’t even enjoy! You also need to know your leanings around earning potential, career development, and how ambitious you are. It’s vital to know what (if any) sacrifices you’ll need to make for a particular role, which particular certifications are required and in what way you can develop commercial experience. Before setting out on a learning programme, you’d be well advised to discuss specific career needs with an experienced industry professional, in order to be sure the retraining program covers all that is required.

Be watchful that any certifications you’re studying for will be recognised by employers and are the most recent versions. ‘In-house’ certificates are not normally useful in gaining employment. Unless the accreditation comes from a major player like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco, then you’ll probably find it will have been a waste of time – because it won’t give an employer any directly-useable skills.

Most training companies will only provide support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Never accept training that only supports trainees via a call-centre messaging system after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Training schools will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. Essentially – support is needed when it’s needed – not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it. The most successful trainers have many support offices active in different time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together; any time of the day or night – help is at hand without any contact issues or hassle. Don’t ever make the mistake of taking second best with the quality of your support. The majority of trainees who can’t get going properly, are in that situation because they didn’t get the support necessary for them.

If you’re like many of the students we talk to then you probably enjoy fairly practical work – the ‘hands-on’ individual. Typically, the painful task of reading endless manuals would be considered as a last resort, but it doesn’t suit your way of doing things. You should use video and multimedia based materials if book-based learning really isn’t your style. Long-term memory is enhanced with an involvement of all our senses – this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for years now. The latest audio-visual interactive programs with demonstrations and practice sessions beat books hands-down. And you’ll find them fun and interesting. Every company that you look at should be able to show you a few examples of their training materials. You should hope for instructor-led videos and a variety of interactive modules. Pick disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) every time. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

Charging for exams upfront and presenting it as a guarantee for your exams is popular with many training course providers. However, let’s consider what’s really going on: Clearly it isn’t free – you’re still coughing up for it – it’s just been wrapped up in the price of the package. It’s well known in the industry that when trainees fund their relevant examinations, when they’re ready to take them and not before, they’ll be in a better position to get through on the first attempt – because they’ll be conscious of what they’ve paid and will therefore apply themselves appropriately. Don’t you think it’s more sensible to find the best exam deal or offer when you’re ready, rather than coughing up months or even a year or two in advance to the training course provider, and also to sit exams more locally – rather than possibly hours away from your area? Paying upfront for exam fees (which also includes interest if you’ve taken out a loan) is bad financial management. Resist being talked into filling the training company’s account with extra money of yours just to give them more interest! Some will be pinning their hopes on the fact that you will never make it to exams – then they’ll keep the extra money. In addition to this, many exam guarantees are worthless. The majority of companies won’t pay for re-takes until you’ve completely satisfied them that you’re ready this time. Average exam fees were about 112 pounds last year via Prometric or VUE centres around the United Kingdom. So why pay hundreds or thousands of pounds extra to have ‘Exam Guarantees’, when it’s obvious that the best guarantee is a regular, committed, study programme, with an accredited exam preparation system.

We’re regularly asked to explain why traditional degrees are less in demand than the more qualifications from the commercial sector? With 3 and 4 year academic degree costs becoming a tall order for many, along with the IT sector’s growing opinion that key company training often has more relevance in the commercial field, we have seen a great increase in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA based training programmes that educate students at a fraction of the cost and time involved. Clearly, a certain amount of associated information has to be learned, but precise specialised knowledge in the exact job role gives a commercially trained person a real head start. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty: Commercial IT certifications tell an employer precisely what skills you have – the title says it all: for example, I am a Microsoft Certified Professional in Windows XP Administration and Configuration. Consequently companies can identify just what their needs are and what certifications will be suitable to deal with those needs.

It would be wonderful to believe that our jobs are secure and our future is protected, but the growing likelihood for the majority of jobs throughout the United Kingdom right now seems to be that security may be a thing of the past. We could however locate market-level security, by looking for areas that have high demand, coupled with a lack of qualified workers. Reviewing the computer industry, a recent e-Skills study highlighted a 26 percent deficit in trained staff. Therefore, out of each 4 positions existing across IT, organisations can only source trained staff for three of them. Highly qualified and commercially accredited new workers are consequently at a complete premium, and it looks like they will be for a long time. In reality, acquiring professional IT skills as you progress through the coming years is likely the finest career direction you could choose.

It’s quite some achievement that you’re on the right track! Only one in ten folks say they enjoy their work, but vast numbers just bitch about it and do nothing. By looking for this we can guess that you’ve a personal interest in re-training, so you’ve already stood out from the crowd. What comes next is find out more and then take action. On the subject of training, it’s crucial that you have in mind what you DO want and DON’T want from the position you’re hoping to qualify for. Be sure that you would be more satisfied before you put a lot of energy into taking a new turn. It’s good sense to regard the destination you’re hoping for to avoid disappointment: Do you hope for interaction with others? If you say yes, are you a team player or is meeting new people important to you? Or are you better working in isolation? Banking and building are a little shaky at the moment, so think carefully about the sector that would give you the most options? When you’ve done all your re-training, would you like this skill to serve you till you retire? Do you feel uncomfortable about the chance of getting another job, and staying employable to the end of your working life? We would strongly recommend that your number one choice is Information Technology – everyone knows that it’s getting bigger. IT isn’t all techie geeks lost in their computer screens constantly – naturally those jobs exist, but most jobs are carried out by ordinary men and women who do very well out of it.

Doing your bit in the leading edge of new technology really is electrifying. You become one of a team of people shaping the next few decades. We’re at the dawn of beginning to understand how all this change will affect us. How we correlate with the world as a whole will be profoundly affected by computers and the internet. A regular IT man or woman in the United Kingdom has been shown to earn a lot more than his or her counterpart outside of IT. Average incomes are amongst the highest in the country. It’s no secret that there is a considerable nationwide hunger for certified IT specialists. Also with the marketplace continuing to expand, it appears this will be the case for a good while yet.

It’s indisputable, the UK IT sector provides unique potential. But, to fully investigate, what questions do we need to raise, and which are the areas we need to look at?

A fatal Faux-Pas that students everywhere can make is to look for the actual course to take, and take their eye off the end result they want to achieve. Schools are stacked to the hilt with students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – rather than what would get them an enjoyable career or job. It’s not unheard of, in some situations, to thoroughly enjoy one year of training only to end up putting 20 long years into a career that does nothing for you, entirely because you stumbled into it without some decent due-diligence when it was needed – at the start. Stay focused on where you want to go, and formulate your training based on that – don’t do it the other way round. Stay on target – making sure you’re training for a job you’ll still be enjoying many years from now. Sense dictates that you always seek guidance and advice from an experienced advisor before making your final decision on a particular study course, so you’re sure from the outset that the specific package will give the skills necessary.

Trainees looking at this market are usually quite practically-minded, and don’t always take well to classrooms, and slogging through piles of books. If you’re thinking this sounds like you, use multimedia, interactive learning, where you can learn everything on-screen. Years of research and study has consistently confirmed that becoming involved with our studies, to utilise all our senses, is proven to produce longer-lasting and deeper memory retention. You can now study via interactive discs. Through instructor-led video classes you’ll absorb the modules, one by one, via the demonstrations and explanations. You can then test yourself by utilising the practice lab’s and modules. It makes sense to see some of the typical study materials provided before you sign the purchase order. Always insist on instructor-led video demonstrations and interactive audio-visual sections with practice modules. Avoid training that is purely online. Ideally, you should opt for CD and DVD ROM courseware where available, enabling them to be used at your convenience – and not be totally reliant on your internet connection always being ‘up’ and available.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always 24×7 round-the-clock support from dedicated instructors and mentors. Too many companies only seem to want to help while they’re in the office (9am till 6pm, Monday till Friday usually) and nothing at the weekends. Don’t buy study programmes that only provide support to you via a call-centre outside of normal office hours. Trainers will defend this with all kinds of excuses. The simple fact of the matter is – you want support at the appropriate time – not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it. The best trainers incorporate three or four individual support centres across multiple time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to join them all seamlessly; at any time you choose – help is at hand avoiding all the delays and problems. Never settle for less than you need and deserve. Support round-the-clock is really your only option for IT learning. Maybe burning the midnight-oil is not your thing; often though, we’re out at work while the support is live.

We’re often asked why qualifications from colleges and universities are being replaced by more commercial certifications? Industry now recognises that for an understanding of the relevant skills, official accreditation from companies such as Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe most often has much more specialised relevance – saving time and money. Academic courses, for instance, often get bogged down in vast amounts of background study – with a syllabus that’s far too wide. This prevents a student from getting enough core and in-depth understanding on a specific area. The crux of the matter is this: Recognised IT certifications give employers exactly what they’re looking for – it says what you do in the title: as an example – I am a Microsoft Certified Professional in Planning and Maintaining Windows 2003 Infrastructure. Therefore companies can look at the particular needs they have and which qualifications are required to fulfil that.

It’s not uncommon for companies to offer inclusive exam guarantees – this always means exams have to be paid for upfront, at the very beginning of your studies. However, prior to embracing this so-called guarantee, consider this: Clearly it isn’t free – you’re still paying for it – the cost has just been rolled into the whole training package. It’s everybody’s ambition to qualify on the first attempt. Progressively working through your exams when it’s appropriate and paying as you go sees you much better placed to get through first time – you put the effort in and are conscious of what you’ve spent. Sit the exam somewhere close to home and hold on to your money and pay for the exam when you take it. A lot of so-called credible training course providers secure huge amounts of money by getting paid for exams at the start of the course then banking on the fact that many won’t be taken. It’s worth noting that exam re-takes through training course providers with an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are tightly controlled. They’ll insist that you take mock exams first until you’ve demonstrated an excellent ability to pass. Paying maybe a thousand pounds extra on an ‘Exam Guarantee’ is remiss – when consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will get you through.

Searching for your first position in IT can feel more straightforward with a Job Placement Assistance service. But don’t place too much emphasis on it – it isn’t unusual for companies marketing departments to overstate it’s need. Ultimately, the huge shortage of staff in the UK is why employers will be interested in you. Whatever you do, don’t procrastinate and wait until you have passed your final exams before getting your CV updated. As soon as your training commences, mark down what you’re doing and place it on jobsites! It can happen that you haven’t even taken your exams when you land your first junior support position; yet this is not possible unless your CV is with employers. Generally, you’ll receive better results from an independent and specialised local recruitment consultancy than you will through a training provider’s employment division, because they will be more familiar with the area and local employers. Do make sure you don’t conscientiously work through your course materials, only to stop and leave it up to everyone else to find you a job. Stand up for yourself and make your own enquiries. Put as much focus into getting your first job as you did to gain the skills.

Using Ezine article submission sites are an effective free way to get traffic to your site. They are one of the best free tools around if you are doing article marketing.

Article marketing is a free way to drive your traffic to your site. There are many ways that you can submit your articles to directories. The two main ways are to manually submit your articles to each directory and using an article submission site.

If you are going to manually submit your articles then you need to sign up to each individual ezine and get yourself a user name and password. Make sure you put it in a safe place because you will have many of them. Each individual site will have a different procedure to follow when submitting your articles.

After you are all set up and know the rules of the ezine article directories it’s time to submit your articles. For each different directory you need to write a different article. Putting the same article on all of the directories is called duplicate content and the benefits you’d normally get from multiple articles won’t apply to you. Search engines do not like duplicate content.

The goal here is to get high quality traffic to your site. In order to do that you are going to need to submit a lot of helpful articles. The more you submit the more traffic you will receive. The best way to get people to click over to your site is to give them information that will actually help them.

In order for your site to rank high in the search engines you are going to need to have a lot of quality backlinks. Unique articles are a great way to get quality backlinks.

The other way to get your articles submitted is to use an article submission site. Article submission sites take care of registering you for the many ezine article submission sites. That means that you wont have to remember hundreds of passwords and have the hundreds of emails saying that they received your article and accepted it.

They also submit your article to thousands of ezine article submission sites. To do this manually it would take you months.

Even though there are lots of different article submission sites to choose from not all of them will send out unique content. The more unique the content the more organic traffic you will receive. A lot of them use keyword spinning which will only give your article about 30% uniqueness and it tends to make your article choppy.

If you are going to use an article submission site for your ezine article submissions then you want to use one that allows you unlimited resource boxes, send out unique content, and allows you the ability to control how many articles are submitted daily. This allows you to gently add links to your site if you want to and will help with your sites ranking.
