In an interview with 60 Minutes, President-elect Obama pledged to exert his influence to change the rules of NCAA college football playoffs. Regardless of the reasons, justifications, or potential arguments as to why NCAA rules ought to be changed, the President of the United States has absolutely no right or authority to influence the process.

Even the hint of using executive power to influence the NCAA is unacceptable and shows clear lack of respect for limitations on power mandated by our legal system.

The President’s real job is to make treaties with foreign governments, appoint federal officers, act as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, and enforce national laws that are spelled out in the Constitution and written by Congress. That’s it!

We must all remain vigilant in keeping the growth of government power in check. When it comes down to it, power is a zero sum game. When government expands its power it does so at the expense of individual liberty.
